Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital Modernizes and Transforms Patient Care, Improves Operational Efficiency with Extreme Networks

New 6 GHz Wi-Fi Network Enhances Security and Creates State of the Art Healthcare.

AMSTELVEEN, Netherlands – Dec. 2, 2024 – Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR), a leader in cloud networking, today announced that it is expanding its work with Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital (ETZ), one of the Netherlands’ largest healthcare providers, to deploy an upgraded wired and 6 GHz wireless network infrastructure across its facilities. The project, which will be completed with support from implementation partner Indicium, will enable ETZ to further refine hospital operations, improve patient care and create a foundation to power state of the art medical applications and devices.
Hospitals rely on technology to modernize patient care, but managing bandwidth-heavy applications and rising cybersecurity risks is increasingly challenging for IT teams. ExtremeCloud™ SD-WAN6 GHz Wi-Fi, and Universal switches—alongside ExtremeAnalytics™ and ExtremeFabric™—will enable ETZ’s network to meet evolving needs, simplifying, automating, and securing operations across its three locations. Combined with ETZ’s existing deployment of ExtremeCloud IQ-Site Engine, completed in partnership with Indicium, ETZ can easily manage its network across all hospital sites.

Key Facts

  • Next-Generation Connectivity for Seamless Patient and Staff Experience: ETZ is upgrading its wireless connectivity across its facilities as part of a broader initiative to modernize into a state of the art hospital, with Extreme’s 6GHz Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) and Universal Switches, providing reliable, uninterrupted connectivity for essential hospital tools like laptops, barcode scanners, streamlined VOIP communication, insulin pumps and EKG machines. As part of this upgrade, ETZ is deploying 1,500 AP 4000s to ensure robust secondary coverage across its facilities, a critical step ahead of ETZ’s planned 2025 launch of a medical alarm system on Wi-Fi handhelds and a new nurse call system.
  • Scalable Connectivity & Streamlined Management: ETZ is set to enhance its network by integrating ExtremeCloud™ SD-WAN with its existing Extreme Fabric infrastructure, creating a unified platform that simplifies management and improves network performance across all locations. This will allow ETZ to securely unify and manage disparate environments and automate the configuration of fabric-enabled switches and access points, making it easy to extend connectivity to new locations. By eliminating the need for manual configuration, ETZ will reduce deployment time, minimize human error, and simplify operational complexity, all critical for a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Patient Care Underlined by 24/7/365 Technical Support: ETZ will rely on Premier Support services from Extreme, helping ensure there is never a network interruption in this critical healthcare environment. With access to Extreme’s Global Technical Assistance Center (GTAC), ETZ benefits from 24/7/365 technical support, ensuring that any issues are promptly resolved, and patient care is never compromised.

Executive Perspectives

“The network is the backbone of our organization, connecting everything from workstations to critical healthcare systems. We’re proud to expand our long-standing partnership with Extreme, leveraging Extreme Fabric to streamline connectivity across all our facilities. Integrating ExtremeCloud SD-WAN will allow us to scale our services while securely connecting and managing devices and applications from a single platform. This will help us address the complex demands of modern healthcare, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality patient care, and allowing us to continuously evolve our technology strategy alongside medical advancements.”

Franz Steinhauser, IT Adviser, ETZ

“With 25 years of experience in wireless networking and mobility integration, we are proud to begin this eight-year collaboration with ETZ and Extreme Networks. Together, we’ve implemented a centralized, managed network solution that integrates seamlessly with healthcare devices. This marks the start of a strong partnership where our specialized engineers will continue to support ETZ in optimizing their network infrastructure, ensuring it meets the demands of modern patient care. We look forward to contributing to ETZ’s success in the years to come.”
